Dividend Investing in Times of Economic Stress

Over the years, it is our belief that a dividend investment strategy has been one of the most consistent ways to generate long-term capital appreciation in a portfolio. According to Ned Davis’s research⁶, $100 invested in companies they have classified as “Dividend Growers and Initiators” would have grown to more than $6,930 over the last 48 years. That same investment would only be worth about $292 if it was invested in “Non-Dividend Payers.” What is lesser publicized is how dividend investing has held up during periods of economic stress… such as the conditions we are currently experiencing.
